Council members will be elected at the Annual Meeting. Below are bios provided by the nominees.
Kenneth Adix: God has given each of us gifts and I would like to use mine in serving on the church council. I previously served as council president for 2 years and treasurer for 8 years. I serve as a reader, communion assistant, usher, help with the Luminary and work on Property committee projects. My wife, Kristin and I have been members of Immanuel since moving to Pflugerville in 1995. We have 3 children: Stephen, LeeAnna and Lucas. I am the Chief Financial Officer for Pflugerville ISD.
Randy Appelhans: I have been a life-long Lutheran. My wife, Maria, and I moved to Pflugerville from Dallas in 2010 and became part of the Immanuel Lutheran Church shortly after arriving. We have four grown children. One child in Abilene with two granddaughters and three children in Phoenix with one grandson and one granddaughter. I retired two years ago after 43 years of senior-level executive positions in the aerospace and defense industries. I had the responsibility of purchasing, inventory and production planning, warehousing and all aspects of supply chain management. My retirement has me dedicated to community service. My volunteer activities include American Red Cross, Senior Access, Habitat for Humanity and Special Olympics. I enjoy horseback riding (recently completed a lengthy cattle drive in New Mexico), fishing and golf. It would be my pleasure to serve the ILC family.
Jean Gifford (incumbent): I am running for a second term on the Immanuel Council. I grew up in the Lutheran church; at some point (either at Immanuel or in another congregation) I have taught Sunday School and Confirmation classes, directed Bible School and Christmas programs, participated in WELCA activities, served as a member of a Pastoral Call Committee and as an interim Day School Director. Now, at Immanuel, I participate in the Hand Bell and Voice choirs and the Prayer Shawl ministry. My husband Dave and I have lived in Pflugerville and have been members of Immanuel for 20 years and our three adult children were confirmed here. I am a math and science teacher, and am excited to be part of the first faculty at Weiss High School. I would be honored to serve the congregation of Immanuel during the period of transition that will come in the next 2 years.
Kevin Kluge (incumbent): Our family has been part of the Pflugerville and ILC community for over 10 years. During that time, I have had the opportunity to teach Sunday School for many of those years and to be part of the vacation bible school for the last several years. I was elected to the church council in 2016 and represents the Parish Education committee. My wife and I have three children (8, 13, and 16), two cats and a dog. During the workday, I work at the Texas Water Development Board in Austin. Thank you for the opportunity to serve our ILC family on the church council.
Hal Kuempel (incumbent): I am a lifelong member of Immanuel Lutheran. I have served on council for the past two years and previously. I am currently on the property committee and help with men’s breakfast. My wife Angela and I have two sons, Zane and Rex. I look forward to being re-elected and serving 2 more years.
Amy Singer: Ken and I have been members at Immanuel since 1993. I currently serve on the Parish Education Committee, Long Range Planning Committee, and the Day School Transition Team. I have previously served two terms on Council, was a member of the Human Resources Committee, and participated in the Constitution, Bylaws and Continuing Resolution updates.
