The backpack ministry is gearing up for the new school year and feeling blessed for the opportunity to serve many of the children attending Ruth Barron Elementary school that might not have enough food at home for the weekend. A bag with non-perishable food items is sent home with these children on the last school day of each week:
Opportunities abound for our Immanuel family.
- Prayers for the work of the Backpack Ministry
- Monetary donations
- Volunteers to fill bags
- Volunteers to deliver the bags to Ruth Baron
- Donations of school approved items
Items listed on the school district’s approved list are: canned pasta with meat; chicken noodle soup; chicken; tuna; Vienna sausages; fruit cups; Ramen noodles; Goldfish crackers; granola bars; peanut butter crackers; microwave cups of mac & cheese; microwave popcorn; individual boxes of cold cereal; and oatmeal packets.
There is a calendar hanging in the hallway across from the work room for sign up for those that would like to fill bags and/or deliver bags each week. And there is a container just inside the glass doors of the education building where food items can be placed.
Please call or email Marie Davis with any questions or to have your name placed on the volunteer list.
Phone 512-251-2508 and please leave a message.
Thanks and praise to God for all opportunities to serve Him as we serve people.
