“God does not need your good works, but your neighbor does.”
– Martin Luther
Service is an important part of a community of faith. In response to the ultimate gift of life given to us, our reaction can only be, “Thank you God, what can I do for you today?” We are called beyond ourselves to serve our community and our neighbors, and to be the hands and feet of Christ in the world.
At Immanuel, we believe in service. We believe that service is so important that we put it in our mission statement – “to serve God by serving people”. You are invited to look through our service opportunities and get involved where you feel the nudge of God calling you.
There are many opportunities to serve at Immanuel. Take a look at the options below to see what opportunities might be the best fit for your interests and gifts. If you have any questions or are ready to jump in, please fill out the form at the bottom of this page, or call the church office at 512-251-4494 to get connected.
Serving as a Sunday School teacher is an impactful way to spread God’s Word to the next generation. Teaching our youngest members about the love of God is truly the Lord’s work. Teachers work on teams for different age groups and rotate teaching each week. The Sunday School year goes from September through May.
What started as a few cans of food in the office has grown to a large food pantry serving many families and individuals each month. This ongoing ministry requires lots of donations and many hands to make it happen. Click the button below to learn more about our Food Pantry at Immanuel.
Immanuel provides backpacks filled with food for the weekend for children at Ruth Barron Elementary who are food insecure. For some children, the only consistent meals they have are their school breakfasts and lunches. When they leave for the weekend, food may not be a guarantee. Our backpack ministry works with the staff at Ruth Barron to ensure that all of the children who may face this reality, leave school with a backpack of food each weekend.
The people who serve on these teams make worship services happen each week. It takes many hands and we are so grateful for those who fill these roles. No previous experience needed and all are welcome. Worship service roles are:
Many of our small groups serve in ways not listed on this page. You are invited to browse our small groups as well – you might find your perfect fit!
One of the ways we care for the families who have lost loved ones is by providing cakes (in addition to lunch) for the funeral reception. Cake team members are contacted on rotation as needed. Cakes can either be baked or bought.
Be anonymously matched with a willing college student. The Church Mouse prays for their student and that student’s joys and struggles, sends gifts always at just the right time, and extends the ILC Family love while students are far from home. At the end of the school year, the Church Mouse is revealed to the college student and the Mouse scurries to get ready for the next year!
We believe God hears our prayers and we share in needs as a community. When members of our Prayer Chain are notified of a prayer request, they call the next person on the chain and so on until all members are notified of the prayer need and can hold those needs in prayer.
At ILC we have a number of events throughout the year that require many hands to make happen. We are so fortunate to have members willing to dive in and bring these visions and events to life. Here are some of the special events ILC members are invited to serve with throughout the year.
